Client Success Stories
Celebrating our client’s success stories and showcasing their milestones is an essential part of LINDA's mission, as it inspires us to keep working towards empowering women in our community. We're excited to share with you the story of Maria and her daughter Camila - one of our many clients who continue to strive for a better life with LINDA’s support.
Maria & Camila's Story
“I met a guy who I thought was the love of my life, we had a long-distance relationship for two years since I used to live in South America while he lived in the US, we eventually got married and I left everything for him; my country, my family, my job, everything. When I came here (to the US) and moved in with him, we started having more arguments than normal so he decided to break up with me. At first, I disagreed because he was my family and I really tried to make it work. But he wasn’t the same anymore so he started living his life as a single person every weekend while I stayed at home with my baby.
One night he abused me while I was sleeping in the same bed with my baby so I started crying and he stopped and promised me it wouldn’t happen again. I didn’t say anything to anybody not even my mom because I didn’t want my parents to be worried. “5 months later it happened again, but this time I called the police. They took me and my daughter, who was 2 years old at the time, away from that house and we went to a shelter.
My social worker helped me a lot and also, at that time my daughter went through many tests since she needed to start pre-k and we discovered that she was diagnosed with autism.
I was there for three months, then I was able to get a place to live but I only had 2 bags, one with our clothes and the other one with my daughter’s toys. So my social worker put me in contact with Sofia and they provided me with some things but I still need a bed for my daughter, a dining table, and almost everything else. So Sofia connected me with Linda, and they helped me with everything.
I’m very thankful to Beth and her team for all their effort. They helped me provide my daughter with a better life. It’s been a year since my life changed for the better. I have been working at night and studying in the morning before taking my daughter to school. Since I graduated, my next goal has been to get a better job and make my daughter proud of me.”
